Putting On and Putting Off
Steve Lane

A. Review/Introduction
Ephesians 4:17-6:9 - Overview, put off and put on
A couple of secrets to intimacy with Jesus: obedience and ministry
Allow God to prepare you for ministry
Romans 13: 14 But put on the Lord Jesus Christ and make no provision for the flesh.
Blind spots and honesty
James 1: 22 Do not merely listen to the Word, and so deceive yourselves.
Last wee we primed the pump with Proverbs.
If we are to be free flowing channels of the rivers of life, we must get this down.

B. Put Off and Put On

The evidence of the new man includes more than Galatians 5: 22
Ephesians 4: 25 - 27
Anger: leaving the door to your soul open. Deal with your anger quickly by putting it to death.

Ephesians 4: 28
Many ways to steal...
True generosity flows out of a core purpose change.
Giving is a good test here.

Ephesians 4: 29
Unwholesome talk - detrimental, corrupt, rotten - what good is it?

Ephesians 4: 30
Our words reveal our heart and it grieves the Holy Spirit when our words tear down.

Ephesians 4: 31
Bitterness - resentful, harsh.
ANger - on-going bitterness, quickness to anger, outbursts of anger.
The warning is clear.
Many people walk around in a state of low-level anger. Just say the wrong thing. (slander, evil speaking, or vilification)
Ephesians 5: 7 But it is noto slanderous or critical to pick your ministry partners carefully. (Malice, ill will. Generally hidden)

Ephesians 4: 32
This should be our common disposition as Spirit-controlled believers.

Ephesians 5: 1 - 2
Live a life of Love. He gave Himself up as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.
1 Corinthians 13: 4 - 7
Romans 12: 1 - 2
Philippians 2: 17
2 Corinthians 2: 14 - 17

Galatians 6: 7 - 9
Self-focus causes much of the blindness... recognizing self-focus.
Reality check... a little secret.

We are designed to live for something else and someone else.
