New Year's Resolutions
Steve Lane

A. Introduction

Jonathan Edwards and his resolves and the many biblical resolutions
Don't waste the New Year; "Don't waste your life."

B. Growing in the Lord in 2010 for the Body and Individual Parts
2 Thessalonians 1: 11 - 12
1 Thessalonians 1: 3
Paul had already commended the church for their faith, love and hope, and the evidence.
2 Thessalonians 1: 3 - 4
And, they are still growing in these things.
Philippians 2: 12 - 13
Does this growth just happen by itself? Must we not resolve to grow?
2 Corinthians 3: 18
Another description of growth.
We must set our face Godward - "Follow Me"

C. Growth and Maturity is not an Accident

It takes a soberness to grow in the Lord, because the old nature does not improve.

The old nature:
Romans 6
Romans 7
Romans 8
Galatians 2: 17 - 20
Galatians 5: 16 - 25
Ephesians 4: 20 - 25
Colossians 3: 5 - 16

We must resolve to follow Christ daily by submitting to Him, being connected to Him, adjusting our life priorities to His, and walking in reliance on the Holy Spirit.

Acts 2: 42
Resolving to do the basic disciplines: devoted to the Word, fellowship and prayer.

2 Thessalonians 1: 5
We are to be kingdom-centered.

Ephesians 2: 10
Set in 2010 to fulfill all that God has prepared for you.

D. Resolving to Follow Jesus, and Live and Labor in His Power for His Glory

My prayer for us in 2010 is 2 Thessalonians 1: 11 and Hebrews 3: 12 - 13

Living worthily, having power in doing His purposes, taking action out of faith, and bringing glory to Christ in everything we do.
God desires to bless us in the coming year.
Are we looking to receive? Resolve to follow Jesus

E. Conclusion

2 Thessalonians 1: 11 - 12
