Prayer - Part 6

A PERSONAL PRAYER RETREAT
Steve Lane

"My sheep listen to my voice." "My soul thirsts for God, the living God. When can I go and meet with God?" "Whether we realize it or not, we desperately need to spend time with God." What could be more important or more fulfilling then having a personal retreat with God? Many things can motivate a time like this: spiritual dryness, a special need or burden, an important decision, a new ministry, etc. But to set aside special times alone with God is to follow the example of those who truly know God, including Jesus Himself.

A day of prayer can include many things. Listening to worship music, reading the Word, walking and praying, kneeling and praying, reading a devotional book, being still and hearing from God, and laboring in prayer. It can be helpful to have a schedule, such as; an hour of worhip and thanksgiving, an hour of walking and praying for others, an hour of reading the Word and another book, a time of reflection, etc.

FOR OUR CALLING

Colossians 4: 2 - 6
Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful. And pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ... pray that I may proclaim it clearly, as I should. Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders - make the most of every opportunity. Let your conversation always be full of grace, seasoned with salt so that you may know how to answer everyone.
Acts 1: 8
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria and to the ends of the earth.
2 Corinthians 3: 9
If the ministry that condemns men is glorious, how much more glorious is the ministry that brings righteousness!
2 Corinthians 10: 4
The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary they have divine power to demolish strongholds.
Colossians 1: 27 - 29
To them God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone perfect in Christ. To this end I labor, struggling with all His energy, which so powerfully works in me.
John 4: 35
I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for the harvest.
