The Four-Fold Look Back – Communion

Preacher:
Service Type:

1 Cor 11:23-32
1 Cor 10:16-17

Four things to look at before taking communion:
1- We need to look back - look at the cross -
Remember what Jesus did for us, he became sin for us.
The wages of sin is death.
Every sin you have committed and will commit in the future has been paid for by Jesus.
Jesus paid for your sin in his blood on the cross.
Put your faith in what Jesus did for you, he paid the price for your sin.
Romans 5:8

2- We need to look within -
A man ought to examine himself before he eats the bread. What do you see?
How are you living? Are you striving for holiness?
Do you put Jesus first? Are you committed to him?
God wants us to acknowledge our sin. Own it. Confess it.
Let God cleanse you of your sin.
How can we take communion in an unworthy manner?
*Harbouring bitterness
*Habitual state of sin
*Unforgiveness
Let go of the things you are holding onto.

3- We need to look around -
No man is an island.
Ecc 4:9-12
Prov 27:17
We need to reach out and be the hands and feet of Jesus.
Share the love of Christ with others.

4 - We need to look ahead -
We need to look to the future, Jesus is coming back!
Imagine sitting in the physical presence of Jesus at the marriage supper of the lamb.
Are you looking forward to his coming with joy or fear?
If you knew the Lord was coming back tonight, how would you spend the rest of your day?

Do these things out of obedience and joy, knowing we can be forgiven!
